64-Gallon Recycling Bins Are Here

If you would like your own larger recycling bin, complete with wheels and a lid, email your request to kingstowne@kingstowne.org.  There is no charge for the larger bin, but it may only be used for recycling.American Disposal Services (ADS) delivers bins monthly to Kingstowne residents.  You will need to schedule an additional free pick up of the smaller tub.  To have ADS pick up your old bin, you have to call them at 703-368-0500.  ADS will schedule a separate pick up for the old bins.

Remember, the same rules for storage of your recycling bins apply.  The bins (old and new) must be kept out of sight until the night before pickup. 


Fairfax County Electronics Recycling

Fairfax County residents can recycle televisions, computers, and electronic peripherals at the I-66 Transfer Station from 10 A.M. until 3 P.M. Sunday February 8 and Sunday March 8.  The Transfer Station is located at 4618 West Ox Road in Fairfax.  There is no cost to Fairfax County residents for this service.  For more information visit the website, www.fairfaxcounty.gov/dpwes/trash/dispsites.htm.

ABOUT THOSE LARGE ITEMS….
Effective September 1, 2007, there will be a new schedule for removing appliances and large items:
Call American Disposal Services at 703-368-0500 to arrange for the special pickup.
 All special pickups must be called in 24 hours in advance.
Special pickups may have a fee that you will be responsible.
American Disposal Services' business hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Refrigerators, freezers and air conditioning units (must have refrigerants removed and tagged by a certified technician before being collected)

Reminder:  Dirt, sod, rocks, bricks, concrete, tires, batteries or all other construction materials will not be removed under the trash collection provisions under any circumstances. Each homeowner must make individual arrangements to dispose of these materials.  If you need more information on the disposal of this type of materials, please call 703-324-5230. There are two Fairfax County landfill sites that accept these products - Lorton, 703-690-1703 and West Ox Road in Fairfax, 703-631-1179.

1. Trash is  collected each Tuesday and Friday, for the South and Middle Villages and on Monday and Thursday for the North Village.  This pertains to all townhouses and detached houses. Apartment and condominium residents should check with their management companies. 

    Trash collection begins at 7:00 a.m. Please set your trash at curbside in front of your home on trash collection days by 7:00 a.m. at the latest, or after dark on the day before trash collection at the earliest.

    All trash is to be placed in rigid trash containers, or in heavy-duty bags which are tightly secured. Light-weight or grocery style bags, or garbage left out loosely in piles or in boxes are not acceptable. Additionally, if you use a rigid container, please be sure to bag the garbage before placing it in the container. All trash containers must be stored out of view at all times, except on trash pick up days. THE WEIGHT LIMIT FOR CANS AND BAGS IS 35 POUNDS.

2. Recyclables are collected each Tuesday (South and Middle Villages) and on each Monday (North Village). Recyclables include the following:

  •  Mixed paper which includes all clean paper including newspapers, magazines, catalogues, office paper, envelopes, colored paper, telephone books, junk mail, file folders, sticky notes, cereal and other food boxes (without foil coatings) and shoe boxes (basically any clean paper that tears).  All recyclable paper should be bundled and tied, then put in a brown paper grocery bag or in a separate recycling bin.  Paper that has food residue, like used napkins, used paper plates and pizza boxes, are not allowed.
  • Plastic bottles and jugs of any color.  The bottle or jug must have a neck that is smaller than the body of the bottle or jug.  Examples of bottles and jugs include, but are not limited to, detergent containers, bleach and other cleaning products, milk jugs and any plastic drink bottle.  Styrofoam containers, yogurt or margarine tubs, deli containers and other plastics that do not have a neck are not allowed.
  • Flattened cardboard that is 3x3 feet or smaller.  If the cardboard is not flattened and does not meet this size requirement, it will be collected but disposed of as trash rather than recycled.  Cardboard should be bundled and placed with the paper or flattened and placed under the recycling bin.
  • Glass food and beverage containers, metal food and beverage containers and yard waste.

Recycling should be set at curbside directly in front of your home by 7:00 a.m. on Mondays or Tuesdays.

3.  GRASS AND YARD DEBRIS will be accepted on Wednesdays in all villages within Kingstowne. Grass and yard debris should be cut in small pieces and bagged in heavy duty bags.  Bags should be in a trash can or at the curb by 7:00 a.m. THE WEIGHT LIMIT FOR TRASH CANS AND BAGS IS 35 POUNDS.  Branches can be no greater than 3 inches in diameter and no longer than 4 feet, and must be tied in small bundles. No sod, dirt, mulch or rocks will be taken.

4. Large items -- To make arrangements or to ask for pricing please call American Disposal Services at (703) 368-0500.

7. The Virginia Department of Transportation ("VDOT") removes animals that have met their unfortunate end on major streets capes. If you see a deceased animal on one of Kingstowne's major streets, please call VDOT at (703) 383-6368. Also, please do not move a dead animal off of the street to another location. If the animal is moved off of the street, VDOT will not respond.
