Pet Policies

1. Only ordinary house pets are allowed.

2. Pet owners are responsible for the immediate removal and proper disposal of animal waste on all portions of the common areas and private property other than their own. Please, bring a "pooper scooper" or something to pick-up the droppings, so you can dispose of them properly (this is not just a Kingstowne rule, it is also Fairfax County Law).

3. Pets shall not be permitted upon the common areas unless under direct control of a resident with a leash six feet or less in length,  or in a carrier designed for such a pet.

4. No pet may be leashed to any stationary object on the common areas and left unattended.

5. The following shall be grounds for complaint and finding of a community nuisance:

a. Pets running at large,

b. Pets damaging, soiling, and/or defecating on any private property or common areas,

c. Pets causing unsanitary, dangerous, or offensive conditions,

d. Pets making or causing noises of sufficient volume to interfere with other residents' rest or peaceful enjoyment of the property.

6. The first step in attempting to solve a pet problem is to try to arrive at a solution with the pet owner in a courteous and helpful manner. If personal attempts at a solution fail, then a written complaint can be filed with the Business Office. The complaint should document the problem as thoroughly as possible. Violators can be brought to an enforcement hearing in front of the Board of Trustees, at which time the Board will decide what penalties to impose. Penalties can range from suspension of facilities use privileges, to a monetary fine, to the removal of the pet from the premises.
