Meeting Minutes

Members Present:                     J. D. Gray, Baxter Lawrence, Vickie Parshall, James Jeweler, Paul Lindell and Sarah Wagner

J. D. Gray called the meeting to order at 7:00 pm


REVIEW OF MINUTES:

Motion to accept the minutes for the August ARC meeting.  The motion carried unanimously.


APPLICATION REVIEW:

MAJORS:

Tree Removal

Motion to approve the tree removal with the condition that it be replaced with a small species of tree from the recommended tree list.  The motion carried unanimously.

Replace Sidewalk

Motion to approve the application for the replacement sidewalk.  The approval is contingent that the excavation not negatively affects the drainage to neighboring properties and common ground.  The motion carried unanimously.

Replace Deck

Motion to deny the application for the replacement deck.  The deck is not in scale with the size of the yard and does not comply with Fairfax County Building Codes for deck set backs.  The motion carried unanimously.

Awning

Motion to approve the application for the awning.  The ARC recommended that the resident consider a lighter color that would not fade and absorb heat.  The motion carried unanimously.

Trees or Bushes

Motion to approve the application for three crepe myrtles.   The motion carried unanimously.

Deck

Motion to approve the application for the deck.  The approval is contingent that the excavation not negatively affects the drainage to neighboring properties and common ground.   The motion carried unanimously.

Upper Deck, Patio, Landscaping and Walkway

Motion to approve the application for the upper deck, patio, landscaping and the walkway.  The approval is contingent that the excavation not negatively affects the drainage to neighboring properties and common ground and that only neutral natural colored stones, rocks, bricks or pavers are used.   The deck must be treated only with clear stain or preservative that allows the natural wood grain to be visible.  The motion carried unanimously.

Trees or Bushes

Motion to approve the installation of no more than five arborvitae located five feet from the back and side property lines. The approval is contingent that the excavation not negatively affects the drainage to neighboring properties and common ground.  The motion carried unanimously.

French Doors

Motion to approve the application for french doors.  The motion carried unanimously.

Color Change

Motion to approve the application for the color change.  The motion carried unanimously.

Door Replacement

Motion to approve the application for the door replacement.  The motion carried unanimously.

Replace Windows

Motion to approve the application for the replacement windows.  The motion carried unanimously.

Door Replacement

Motion to approve the application for the door replacement.  It was noted that the actual color of the house trim is McCormick Amber White.  The motion carried unanimously.

Solatube and Replace Roof

Motion to approve the application for the solatube and replacement roof.  The motion carried unanimously.

Replace Sliding Door

Motion to approve the application for the replacement sliding door with the condition that the trim remains the same color.  The motion carried unanimously.

Turf Removal

Motion to deny the application for the turf removal and require that the turf be restored.  The motion carried unanimously.

Deck Screening

Motion to approve the application for the deck screening.  The motion carried unanimously.

Playground

Motion to approve the application for the playground.   The approval is contingent that the playground is constructed of pressure treated wood that is treated with only clear stain or preservative that allows the natural wood grain to be visible and that the excavation not negatively affects the drainage to neighboring properties and common ground.  The removal of any trees will require additional approval.   The motion carried unanimously.

Shed

Motion to deny the application for shed because of its height and color.   The motion carried unanimously.

Patio

Motion to approve the application for the patio.  The approval is contingent that the excavation not negatively affects the drainage to neighboring properties and common ground and that only neutral natural colored stones, rocks, bricks or pavers are used.  The motion carried unanimously.

Patio

Motion to approve the application for the patio.  The approval is contingent that the excavation not negatively affects the drainage to neighboring properties and common ground and that only neutral natural colored stones, rocks, bricks or pavers are used.  The motion carried unanimously.

Tree Removal

Motion to approve the application for the tree removal.  The motion carried unanimously.

Siding and Replacement Fence

Motion to approve the application for the siding and replacement fence.  The fence approval is contingent that it is treated with only clear stain or preservative that allows the natural wood grain to be visible.  The motion carried unanimously.

Tree Replacement

Motion to approve the application for the tree replacement.   It was suggested that the replacement tree be installed further from the sidewalk to avoid future issues.  The motion carried unanimously.


NEW BUSINESS:

The Committee reviewed the draft standard application for Rubbermaid type sheds.  Staff will revise the draft and send via email to the members of the committee.

Motion to adjourn the meeting at 8:35 pm.  The motion carried unanimously.
